The Hotel Romano- Negombo

The bathroom facilities were really poor, and the water supply stopped working the next morning. We also found extra charges beyond what we'd been told beforehand. The staff didn't seem familiar with things. I'd think twice before choosing this place.

The rooms are spacious, and the place was very clean with no bad smells. We had a quiet, relaxing two-night stay and thought it was good value. The staff were friendly and helpful, and breakfast hit the spot with fruit, juice, omelet, pancakes, and toast. The beach and plenty of restaurants are an 8-minute walk away. A handy place to stay before heading to the airport.

The room was large, clean, quiet, and comfortable, with AC and hot water, and the pool was wonderful. But the bathroom door wouldn't shut, and the kettle came with a mug but no tea or coffee. Breakfast by the pool wasn't great, and there isn't a restaurant. The walk in is along a tiny sand-and-rock road with no lighting at night. There's also an angry dog belonging to the neighbors that may try to bite you or your luggage. The woman at reception didn't speak much English, so even sorting out the WiFi took us 15 minutes. They lock the gate overnight, so you need to tell them when you'll return or you may be left outside. Not very convenient.

We had a lot of problems during a stay of less than eight hours at Hotel Romano. The bathroom smelled bad, and there were no toilet papers or towels in the room. The bed wasn't properly cleaned either. The refrigerator was very dirty and smelled, and the room only had a dirty electric kettle, with no tea bags, sugar, water, spoons, or cups. We wouldn't recommend this hotel to anyone.
