Cocoon Hills

This old colonial town house has loads of character and used to belong to the Governor. It's very close to the town centre, near grand hotel. We had a temporary water outage, but the charming host got it sorted quickly. Loved our stay.

The stay was okay, but we booked this place specifically because breakfast was supposed to be included, and we have two little kids. When we got up, nobody was there. Our calls went unanswered, and at 8 am someone finally arrived and was trying to arrange food. We were already late for our trip, so we left without breakfast. It was very inconvenient and unprofessional. If you need the included breakfast, don't stay here.

Breakfast was a highlight, fresh and delicious, and the staff were warm, helpful, and happy to make us comfortable. The cottage was beautifully kept, with lovely colonial character, but also clean, cozy, and well furnished. We stayed there for one night on our honeymoon and felt at home as soon as we arrived. It's peaceful but right in the centre, close to what you need in town. We couldn't have asked for a better stay in Nuwara Eliya. A unique, memorable place, and I'd recommend it.

The best part was the evening Chef Amiz, Tuan Arfin, and their team put together for us: a bonfire and BBQ under the stars, with tables set out across the lovely, well kept grounds. So much fun! The food was great too. We had the sizzling platter the first night, and lunch and dinner are available at their sister hotel, The Royal Cocoon. Breakfast there was fantastic, with Eggs Benedict and pancakes. The 100 year old Colonial Cottage was such a fitting place to stay in Nuwara Eliya. It's clean, comfortable, homely, and well furnished, with a central location. The staff were attentive and friendly, and nothing was too much trouble. A must for a stay here!
