Dream Stay House

A cloth rack would be handy, but that was my only small suggestion. We had a really enjoyable vacation at Dream Stay Green. It was clean and comfortable, with a lovely view that made it easy to relax. The service and location were great too.

The owner was friendly and came to help when a large black bee got into our room at night. That was the one good part of the stay. The room itself looked nothing like the photos, and the facilities were very old. There was mold on the walls and dust all over the floor, which made it feel unsanitary. The bathroom smelled foul, the shower was broken and leaked constantly, and the windows of the bathroom let the smell spread into the room. At night, the first person could get hot water, but it ran out halfway through the second shower. The owner said the hot water was already finished. In the mountains it gets very cold without it, so shower early if you stay here. We also had no water in the morning, and the owner said shortages happen often in the mountains. There were lots of mosquitoes and no repellent available. I saw at least five in the room at night, so bring your own mosquito net.

There’s plenty of space, and the rooms have their own toilets. The mountain view outside is amazing. The sheets smelled odd, and the water was warm but barely flowed.

I woke up to birds singing from the balcony, which had a nice view. There are little shops nearby and a waterfall we enjoyed hiking to. Nanu Oya was better than I expected, and the location is really close to the train station. This was our best stay in Sri Lanka so far, ten days into our trip, and good value for money. I wish we’d booked more than one night. The homestay is still being renovated, but our room was ready, clean, and fresh. It had towels, toiletries, soap, shower gel, lotion, coffee, tea, a kettle, a comfortable bed and pillows, a hairdryer, hot water, and a balcony. Games and books were available too. A small fridge and maybe a closet would make it even better. I’d definitely recommend it. Breakfast included in the price would be a nice addition :)
