Glenfall Reach Hotel

The food was very good, and the staff were friendly and helpful, especially in the restaurant. The hotel itself was clean, but the website had given me a completely different impression. There wasn’t a proper lounge or lawn to relax in, and the rooms felt too small for that. The layout wasn’t good, the shower was tiny, and maintenance seemed lacking. I regret booking here.

I visited in April 2018. The room was spacious, but with no air-conditioning and no fan available when I asked, I had to leave the windows open and let insects in. The buffet was okay, though the à la carte menu had little choice. Staff were friendly and tried to help, but the lack of cooling was a real turn-off. There’s no lift either, so you have to climb four or five flights of stairs. The bathroom needs upkeep, and the shower doors were missing or didn’t work properly.

The welcome was warm, but the hotel itself is in bad shape. Even with the windows shut, wind gets in. WiFi was either unavailable or far too slow to use, including in the lobby. The food wasn’t great, and staff standing behind you while you eat may feel uncomfortable. I found the whole stay unpleasant.

The hotel sits among tea plantations and mountains, less than a kilometer from the A5 highway and about a kilometer from both Glen Falls and the Nuwara Eliya Golf Club. Its rooms have wood floors and furnishings, TVs, minibars, and tea and coffee facilities, with views of the mountains and falls. The style mixes British Colonial details with modern touches, and room service is available. There’s a breakfast buffet in a simple restaurant and a relaxed bar.
