Yoho The Train View Guest House

For a moderate budget, it’s a very good choice if you’re after local charm, peace, scenery, closeness to the train, and good home-cooked meals. It’s especially suited to people who aren’t expecting luxury or high-end resort comforts. There are lovely views of tea plantations and hills, and the station is usually just a short walk, around 5 minutes, which is handy for catching a train or using the Nanuoya rail connections.

The food was amazing, especially breakfast, one of the best I’ve had in Sri Lanka. It’s a family home stay, so don’t expect a hotel. For the price, it was amazing.

I stayed for a little over a month and found it really welcoming. The balcony room had a nice view, and the food was good. They’ll cook for you with relatively short notice, and you can also get clothes washing and hire a three wheeler. A very nice place for a couple of nights or a longer stay.

From our room we could see endless tea plantations, a panorama I won’t forget. We spent one night at The Train View, and Selva and his family made it memorable with their warm welcome and delicious homemade local food at dinner and breakfast. The chicken curry was rich and outstanding, definitely worth trying. We enjoyed every moment.
