Oak Ray Summer Hill Breeze Hotel

We really liked the quiet setting and the lovely gardens, and the fresh, delicious breakfast was a treat. The colonial-style building gave the hotel character, while our room stayed warm and comfortable. The staff helped us arrange sightseeing tours and were very helpful. A charming, relaxing spot for a mountain holiday.

The rooms sit at different levels, each with a balcony that feels icy. From the dining hall you can look out over Gregory lake and southward beyond it. Even when the city isn't visible, the passing haze is a spectacle of its own. Breakfast feels magical: there's a little stream of water running along a cliff to the north, with a soothing wind chime and haze drifting by. One small note for vegetarians: say whether you want egg or no egg. Coconut rotti, for example, can contain egg and still be called vegetarian. That was the only hiccup.

I stayed on Nov 4th and 5th. The place is well maintained, the service is good, and the food selection covers English, Sri Lankan, North and South Indian dishes. Everything I tried was tasty. Chandramohan and siva were especially friendly and nice. One of the best hill station resorts in nuwara eliya, and I recommend it.

The staff were genuinely friendly and good, but the rest of the experience left me very disappointed. The website advertised buffet meals, and I have a screenshot. I also called twice to check, and both times they confirmed it would be a buffet, so I booked full board. After the reservation was confirmed and payment requested, I was told the meals would instead be set menus. They then promised five courses, but served only three, with very little variety. I wouldn't have minded a set menu by itself. Promising one thing until the booking is secured and then misleading customers is poor business ethics.
