The Blackberry Cottage

We couldn’t have asked for a better stay in the Honeymoon Loft at Blackberry Cottage. The food tasted fantastic and came in generous portions. Our room was spotless with a gorgeous view, and the staff were so friendly, handled every request right away, and really went above and beyond. Highly recommend it!

The cottage was warm, cozy and comfortable, just right for the cold weather up on the hill. The food was excellent and everything we ate tasted delicious. The Blackberry Cottage is in Shanthipura, the highest elevated village in Sri Lanka, and its position right at the top gives you breathtaking mountain views. Even though it feels like it’s way up in the clouds, the roads are good and any car can get there easily. We had an amazing stay.

The host Rashmika’s welcome and hospitality topped off a great stay. We booked the Honeymoon Loft for its superb view, and in the morning you can see Adams Peak too. The viewing area in the room was a real place to calm your nerves. With a space heater and heated water ready to use, the cold climate was much more bareable. Amazing place and view, definitely recommended.

The hot water was a major problem. The taps didn’t have proper hot water, the dining area tap ran only ice-cold water, and the room heaters weren’t working at all. Cleanliness was also very poor: the bathroom hadn’t been cleaned properly and there were cobwebs in the room, making it seem like it hadn’t been prepared before we arrived. Breakfast was even worse. The menu showed several options, but all they put on the table was string hoppers. It felt like a joke, and advertising a full menu then serving something completely different is misleading. I don’t understand the 5 star rating, because our experience was far from that. For anyone planning a stay in Nuwara Eliya, I’d strongly recommend going somewhere else if you want to enjoy your stay and get what you paid for. This place was a total disaster. 😡
