Sinharaja Hostel

We were a group of postgraduate students staying one night while carrying out a scientific study in the rainforest, and the experience was horrible. When we arrived, one room was missing from our booking. They blamed us for booking incorrectly and charged us for another room, the same amount we'd already paid for four rooms. In other words, the one extra room cost us double. We then tried to order dinner from the menu, but were told that because our group was large, that wasn't possible and we had to pay the buffet's abusive prices. The most frightening part happened at night while one of my colleagues was showering. Someone was watching her through the window, probably a member of staff, since the hotel is isolated with nothing around it. We asked them to check the cameras and find a solution, but they spoke to us aggressively and refused to do anything. They said we'd have to file a police report and have police come there to inspect the footage. We felt terribly treated. I know this may be a specific case, but I do not recommend this hotel, especially for women, because it could happen again.

We booked two deluxe rooms more than three months ahead, but when we arrived, we were offered rooms full of ants and told ours weren't available. Stay away.

Great people, a really comfortable place, and such a relaxed feel. The views are lovely too. We had a fantastic weekend, including a jungle tour they arranged at a really fair price. This place is sick!

On weekends, big crowds of young people come here to party all night. The music and singing get incredibly loud and carry on long after midnight.
