The biggest drawback is how isolated the place is. You need to arrange a driver to get out, and locals advise against walking on the roads after dark or early in the morning because of elephants. But you’re staying in the jungle, so that comes with the setting. The owners are lovely and very helpful, and they’ll make great food if you ask. The clean rooms have what you need, and the garden is beautiful, with an amazing view of the lion rock. You can ask the hosts to arrange activities, and the lion rock is close enough to walk to, just watch out for elephants on the streets. I had a lovely stay and hope to return one day.

Sampat, Anusha and their brother were incredible hosts, helpful with all my requests and needs, and they arranged tours and rides for me. The jungle setting has incredible views, and the room was very clean and comfortable. Their breakfasts and dinners were amazing. It’s 10 mins from Pigurandala Rock. This was the best homestay experience I had in Southeast Asia. 100% recommend the place.

We ended up with an extra night and were glad to spend it with this lovely family. From the open space facing the rock, we had our best birdwatching in Sri Lanka, even better than on my trip to Cat Tien, Vietnam. The garden is beautiful, the room was very comfortable, and the view of Sigiriya Lion Rock is amazingly clear.

We loved our stay. The staff were attentive and helpful, and the rooms were nice, with AC and hot water. Lion’s Rock and town are within walking distance, yet the hotel feels away from the tourist area. Keep in mind that you should be back before sunset each day. There are wild elephants nearby, and locals recommend staying off the roads after dark, even in a tuk tuk. The picture is the morning view from outside our room with tea!

Sadut and his family made the trip for us, with beautiful traditional meals each night and morning and a lovely driver they arranged for the 4hrs to Ella. The family were so welcoming, and his gorgeous daughters spent time with us as we swapped English for Sinhala. We loved this home stay, our favourite accommodation in Sri Lanka. It felt like authentic Sri Lanka, with an incredible view of Lion’s Rock and peacocks in the farm next door. Thank you to the family.
