Sigiriya Mana B&B

Breakfast was tasty, and dinner was available if requested. The countryside setting was lovely and immersive, and two nights cost very little, though you do get what you pay for. Rooms were basic but had fantastic AC. One room’s toilet wasn’t working. Bring a blanket: the small one provided wasn’t much, and you may want the AC on low to keep mosquitoes away. Also bring repellent.

Mana’s wife was very kind and always willing to help, but that was the only good part. Our room was dirty, with mosquitoes and spider webs everywhere, and the toilet seat was dirty too. We moved to another Homestay, and it was nothing like this one. The breakfast was poor, and the Nescafé bag they gave us had already been opened. We asked for fruit instead of muffins and other sweets but didn’t get a response. They charged for water bottles even though they’d been offered without a price. Many other places give water free as a welcome. The fan was very noisy. We found somewhere cheaper and better, Chanaka holiday inn, so you can get better places for that price.

Mana was waiting at the airport with a big smile and a placard when my husband, our two kids, and I arrived. From then on, we felt safe and well looked after. His wife cooked delicious traditional food, and we stayed at his family’s hotel. Mana also knows a lot and shared plenty of insights, taking us to lovely local spots that not many tourists know about. Even when we were tired, his upbeat attitude kept us smiling. We give him infinite stars for his service! A close family friend had recommended both Mana and Sri Lanka, and we’re so glad we listened. Thank you from Canada! 🇨🇦
