Apna Colombo

The location is fine, tucked into a very quiet neighborhood about a four minute walk from the main street. The gates close at 10pm, but you can call someone to let you in if you arrive later. The room I eventually got was spacious, with an okay view of the lotus flower building, and Pradeep was helpful and nice. The problem started at arrival. They first showed me a dim, small, outdated room with a wall view and no sunlight, then said I could pay “a little bit” more to upgrade. The booking only shows the nicer room, so you might think that’s what you’ll get. It isn’t. My room was very dirty. There were two beds and neither was clean. The sheets and pillows had stains, and in the evening I had to ask for new pillowcases. I only got two, but fine. The bin still had grapes from the previous guest. The towel was really dusty, the floor was dirty, gum was stuck on the wall, and the hairdryer didn’t work and was dusty. The rug looked like it hadn’t been washed in years. The separate toilet, sink counter, and bathroom were also dirty. I asked them to clean the whole room the next morning while I was out. For hygiene, I’d give it 3/10. It felt like nobody had stayed there for a while, with cobwebs around. The fridge didn’t work and was a bit mouldy, and the sofa and cushions were a definite no, with stains, hair, and all sorts on them. They seemed to be renovating, and workers sometimes woke me early with noise. Breakfast isn’t worth it. They made me a “Sri Lankan omelette,” which was just a normal omelette with toast and black tea. At the end they charged an extortionate price, when you could get three of the same thing if you went out. The owner was rude too. Their card machine wouldn’t work, and while I was waiting for a transfer he started shouting at me, as if it were my fault or I wouldn’t pay. I’d already paid for five nights, but my train was rescheduled, so I had to stay a few more hours into the next day. Fix the machines, or let the receptionist Regi handle it. Please fix the corridor lights or make them automatic. It’s very dark and dangerous in the evening.

The apartment was well furnished and had all the facilities we needed for a comfortable stay, including an elevator. We felt safe there, and the pool area was clean and well maintained. The rooftop was superb for relaxing and taking in the beautiful view across Colombo. I’d definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a convenient place with a nice city view.

Our family had a wonderful time in a family room at Hotel Apna Colombo. The rooms were clean and comfortable, and the hotel was close to Colombo city. The rooftop was amazing, there was a swimming pool on the ground floor, and parking was convenient and close to amenities and major attractions. The food was delicious, and the facilities were well equipped. The owner and staff were friendly and welcoming, always polite, helpful, and attentive. Their team seems genuine and understands what guests need. We had an amazing time with them.

How can a hotel treat its customers this way? The people here don’t even know how to speak to them properly. I’m definitely not coming back.
