Angam Villas Colombo

Angam villas felt wonderfully relaxing, especially around the pool and in the private garden. The staff were friendly and helpful. I had a tasty prawn curry on our first night, and the breakfasts were excellent each morning, with eggs, Sri Lankan breakfast, and fruit.

The garden and pool were great places to unwind, and our spacious, very clean room was tastefully designed. Angam Villas Colombo is beautifully maintained and feels like a quiet hideaway from the city noise. Staff were attentive, friendly, and always willing to help. It’s peaceful and calm while still close enough to Colombo’s main attractions. We’d definitely stay again. Highly recommended if you want comfort, privacy, and welcoming service.

The additional night became a serious problem. We had booked three nights through Booking.com, then agreed on arrival to pay cash, and the reservation was cancelled. We paid 18,000 LKR per night for those three nights. I asked to stay one more night because my friend was leaving on the 3rd and I needed somewhere to stay before my flight. The same rate was agreed. I paid the extra 18,000 LKR in cash to the taller male staff member handling the transaction, making 72,000 LKR for four nights. It seems that final payment was never written down or recorded. The day before we were due to leave, we were told the extra night hadn’t been paid and asked to vacate. I explained that I had paid and asked them to check CCTV. At first they said they would review it, but when I followed up soon after, they said a technician was needed to access the footage and didn’t check it then. They gave us a WhatsApp number and said footage would be sent, but the number didn’t seem active on WhatsApp when we tried to contact it. Since the booking was cancelled and everything was paid in cash, I strongly advise future guests to make sure every payment is recorded and receipted. I saw other Booking.com reviews mentioning billing concerns, so I felt I should document this clearly. Our stay was uncomfortable in other ways too. On several occasions the owner passed us without greeting or acknowledging us, which felt unusual after the warmth and hospitality we’d experienced elsewhere during our month in Sri Lanka. There was an underlying tension. The entrance was cluttered and untidy, a poor first impression that didn’t match the Booking.com listing photos. No welcome drink or refreshment was offered, and nobody explained breakfast times or gave us a general orientation. Those aren’t major issues alone, but at this price point we expected them. We stayed three nights and had no housekeeping, even though the Booking.com listing said it was daily. For about €50 a night, we expected at least basic servicing. The towels had visible holes. On the second day, we found a dead rat outside our door. It was still there after we returned from the pool, so we had to ask staff to remove it. That was unacceptable. Breakfast was basic, with no fresh juice, just water, tea, or coffee. In replies to previous negative reviews, we noticed statements saying there was “no record” of a guest’s stay. We’ve included photos of the entrance and a view of the pool from our balcony to confirm we stayed here. The entrance presentation also looks very different from the Booking.com listing images. This was the only poor accommodation experience we had in our month in Sri Lanka. Unfortunately, we wouldn’t recommend it.

My wife and I were welcomed warmly. The room is super comfy, the pool is warm and gets good sun, and breakfast is delicious.
