French Residence

We could happily have stayed forever, and it seems like a great place for digital nomads too. Our room was spacious and comfortable, with a balcony we loved. The thoughtful design carries through to the garden, and everything is decorated with lovely attention to detail. Breakfast was fabulous, beautifully presented each day, and the coffee was the best if you love coffee. We really enjoyed meeting the owner and her family and hearing their story. Everyone was kind and lovely to talk with. Thanks, Renate and team, for such a relaxing stay.

The place looks beautiful, with stylish design, great staff and excellent coffee. But the value didn't feel right. There was no air conditioning, only a fan, which wasn't practical in Sri Lanka's heat, and the stone bed frame was easy to bang your shins on at night. Laundry at €10 a load seemed excessive next to local prices. The fiber internet they'd promised wasn't working when we arrived. At first, the response was dismissive, saying it worked for them, and it took several follow-ups before anyone came to fix it. If appearance is your priority, you may love it. For comfort and good vibes, I'd look elsewhere.

We felt very welcome and well looked after. The rooms were clean and modern, and the staff were so friendly. The location was close to everything while still being peaceful. Both breakfast and dinner were amazing, fresh and offered a good variety. We'd definitely come back!

A heads up if dogs make you nervous: several live here with the owners. They're perfectly nice, but the place may not suit you if you're scared of dogs. Our whole family loved the stay and would definitely return. Renate and Shantha were warm and welcoming, and kind and helpful when something went wrong. The rooms were big and clean, the grounds beautiful, breakfast delicious, and the curry at dinner was amazing. There's also a great beach just minutes away. Thanks, Renate and Shantha!
