We came to stay here by chance, after arriving at the hotel we’d booked and discovering our room had been given to someone else. We were tired and disappointed, walking down the street without knowing where we’d end up, when Shali stopped to talk and kindly offered us a room. His warm smile made us feel we’d found the right place. The family is what made the stay special. They were genuinely kind and welcoming without being intrusive, and it felt more like being invited into their home than staying in a hotel. The room was the cleanest we had in all of Sri Lanka, comfortable and spotless. After three days it was cleaned again, with fresh towels and sheets. We also loved spending evenings on the veranda, looking at the ocean and enjoying the calm. The beach was just a few metres away, and everything we needed was nearby. We tried breakfast before leaving, and it was wonderful, with delicious food and amazing coffee. Shali’s mother also helped with our laundry and made sure we were comfortable. If we return to this part of Sri Lanka, we’d stay here again without hesitation.

I already had a place to stay, but Shali kindly showed me the rooms. They’re all spacious and nicely decorated, and I liked the upstairs one best. He’s also a great driver, friendly and professional, and speaks several languages. He drove me to Udawalawe and came along on the jeep tour. He knows a lot and has a sharp eye for spotting animals. I highly recommend his service. You’ll be in good hands and have a wonderful time.

The owner’s mother may be one of the sweetest people around, and the host family are all so nice. I loved staying here and would recommend it for a lovely experience. The room has everything you need, except hot water.

Three wonderful days here. The rooms were clean, the staff friendly, and the location was nice. The Sri Lankan breakfast was the best!
