Himasha Guest

Restaurants, shops and the beach are all an easy walk away, with Coconut Hill nearby for those stunning views. I liked that the guest house still felt quiet and peaceful. My room was spacious, clean and comfortable, just right for resting after a day out. A lovely, convenient place to stay near the coast.

The location worked well for us: Turtle beach is about a three-minute walk, though the main Mirissa town takes around fifteen minutes on foot. We had a huge bed and a terrace where breakfast was served, but the room smelled a little damp and the fan, the only cooling option, wasn't very effective. The shower pressure was low, and ants and mosquitoes came in through a window the host had left open for ventilation. Mosquitoes seemed to be everywhere. The Alsatian is friendly once it knows you, but when we arrived it barked at us and slowly came closer for about two minutes before the owner appeared. We don't mind dogs, though the host didn't seem very concerned about keeping it away. If you're afraid of dogs, I wouldn't recommend staying here. Booking.com doesn't mention the dog. Breakfast was limited and disappointing. The property menu and our previous homestay experiences had led us to expect fruit, coconut roti, dahl and hoppers. Instead, we got lots of bread, a sweet bread item with a dead ant on it, and one omelette each. The host did bring a second omelette when we asked. We also weren't offered a welcome drink, and although tea and coffee were said to be available all day, we couldn't get any without asking and the host seemed reluctant. The WiFi kept cutting out and only worked on the main terrace. The host also tried to charge us too much, as we've experienced at every homestay we've booked through Booking.com, which made for an awkward exchange. It wasn't a great place, but for the price it wasn't the worst either.

We planned to stay for three nights, then added three more because we felt so comfortable there. The location is great, the rooms are really nice, and the place feels authentic. Thanks to the whole family for being so kind and looking after us so well!

The grounds were clean and green, and the price was good. The owners were amazing, and the location was great.
