Liyanage Resort

The owners and their son, who runs the mini market beside the hotel, were warm and helpful with anything we needed. We’re grateful for that. The room could have been cleaner, though, and the pool didn’t look clean, so we didn’t use it. It’s close to the sea, but there’s no sea view despite what’s advertised. Being right by the main road also means traffic noise early in the morning. We had a pleasant stay, but felt we paid more than the place offered.

A handy base for exploring Mirissa, with the town’s main sights close by. It’s a good budget option, and the pool was okay. Just be aware that the main road is right beside it, so you’ll hear traffic.

The worst resort stay I’ve ever had. We’d held a booking for weeks, then just a day before check-in, about a month after making it, we were told Liyanage Resort was closed for “construction.” That left us scrambling for somewhere else to stay in Mirissa at the last minute, with no regard for our plans. When we arrived at check-in time, the staff were rude and confrontational. They gave no sincere apology or explanation and refused to offer compensation for the trouble, so we were left stranded. The place also had a run-down, unmanaged feel from the brief look we got. The pool was visibly murky and dirty, with a strong stagnant-water smell. It seemed like a health and safety hazard. This was a nightmare, from the last-minute cancellation to the hostile staff and filthy pool. I’d tell anyone going to Mirissa to avoid Liyanage Resort and book somewhere else. Save yourself the stress and money. It shouldn’t be operating.

We wouldn’t come back, even though the staff were kind and friendly throughout our one-night stay. Breakfast was a letdown, mostly bread with very few things to have with it, and the pool looked like it needed attention. There was no electricity until around 5:00 PM, which made things inconvenient. The room smelled unpleasant and didn’t feel clean or comfortable. A large piece of plaster also fell from the ceiling while we were eating breakfast, which felt unsafe.
