The wildlife tours were a real highlight. We saw elephants and other exotic animals up close in their natural habitat, and the knowledgeable guides made it exciting as well as educational. The lodge is beautifully designed for a safari and fits into the natural surroundings. Staff were welcoming and went out of their way to make us comfortable. Meals were delicious, with local and international options, and eating at the open-air restaurant to the sounds of the wilderness made them feel special. Elephant Lodge in Udawalawa exceeded our expectations. We left with memories we'll keep for a lifetime and can't wait to return. Highly recommend it for a safari stay.

The price and quality are completely fine. If you want to see elephants in the jungle and are looking for average accommodation, this lodge should meet your needs. The staff were friendly, and we had a fantastic, generous lunch and slept surrounded by nature. It's basic, but that's fine. The access road is a bit bumpy, though still better than London's morning rush hour! I don't understand all the criticism. Get a life!

We had a peaceful, silent stay, and the modern, nicely decorated rooms were comfortable, with working air conditioning and a good shower. The staff were attentive and helpful, and the food was excellent. Harindi was great from the first WhatsApp messages before we arrived, and quickly arranged a special menu for my mother-in-law, who is allergic to chilli. We're all vegetarian, and the team made her a traditional rice and curry without spice. She was thrilled, as it was the first time in Sri Lanka she'd been able to try that dish. We booked on the day we arrived, so the quick, brilliant service was especially impressive. The lodge also arranged a safari at a great price. Our driver was excellent, attentive to what we wanted to see, and spotted lots of animals. It was my second Udawalawe safari, and I'd recommend the driver they arranged. Such a perfect, peaceful place. I can't recommend the team enough. Thank you!

The garden view was lovely, and there were peacocks, monitor lizards, and buffalos roaming around. Staff were friendly and helpful, and can arrange a safari. The official property photos no longer match its current condition, though the Google rating and reviews do. The menu is priced in U.S. dollars, and drinking water is served only in the restaurant, not provided in the rooms. Breakfast was basic, and dinner portions were small enough that you'll lose weight. WiFi is only available in the lobby and frequently cuts out, working perhaps 20% of the time. It also seems sheets are changed between guests only if requested. The location is quite remote, with no shops nearby, so I'd suggest staying at most one day for the morning safari.
