The pool seemed fine from a distance, but by then we just wanted to leave. The rooms were filthy, with dust, bugs, rubbish and food scraps on the counters. There were no mosquito nets, and the roughly 17 billion mosquitoes made the night miserable anyway. The washrooms were dirty too, with unclean rags. The breakfast area was a mess as well. The TV was smashed, and furniture, old rags and other things were piled to one side like a garage sale, so we skipped the breakfast that was included. I’ve stayed in hotels, hostels and Airbnbs across Sri Lanka, as well as in countless places on five continents. This was by far my worst experience, and one of the worst nights of our trip. I don’t know what happened, but being near the Udawalawe entrance didn’t make up for it. I’d rather have walked through the desert all night than stay in this mess. Don’t go here. One star is still one too many.

We booked through an app, but when we called on arrival day, the owner said no rooms had been reserved. According to him, we could stay only if a room happened to be available when we got there. If that was the arrangement, there was no point booking through the app. We had to find another hotel on the way because of his unprofessional handling of it. I wouldn’t recommend this place.

Dinner and breakfast were both tasty, and the next morning’s breakfast was free. We paid Rs. 8000 for one room for one night, with dinner included. The staff were really friendly, and the service was excellent. There’s a swimming pool too. Le Green Udawalawe is a calm place, highly recommend it.

We arrived around 8 PM after a long drive to Udawalawe, already stressed because our original hotel wasn’t available and the airport driver hadn’t dropped us where planned. We were left to sort things out ourselves with our one-year-old. A Google search for nearby hotels led us here, and the stay turned out much better than we expected. It’s in a great location and made what could have been a difficult night pleasant.

Our booked hotel had mysteriously disappeared, so we ended up staying here at the last minute. The owner at Le Green was friendly and made us feel welcome. The room was clean and the shower was hot, and I enjoyed a swim in the pool. In the morning we walked a short way to the dam, bought mango slices from the vendors, and saw elephants and birds. The owner also kindly arranged a safari jeep for a good price. Thanks!
