The kitesurf lessons were the highlight for me. Danushka was patient and made learning feel comfortable, and the team can also arrange gear rental. After travelling around Sri Lanka, I spent five lovely days here unwinding. My cabana felt like a peaceful little hideaway, and there are hammocks and loungers everywhere if you want to spend the day doing nothing. The women cooking each day made amazing Sri Lankan meals, and everyone was friendly and helpful. Geewanie went out of her way to make guests comfortable, including sorting dietary needs and arranging onward transport and day trips. Thanks for a really special stay!

The setting is lovely, tucked into nature, and the simple accommodation was spotless and comfortable. It was an easy place to relax in peace for a few days, and the staff made us feel at home from the moment we arrived. We especially enjoyed the fresh local food, prepared every day by local cooks. Jevani, the team leader, arranged a cooking lesson that was a memorable part of the stay. She also took us around the village and organised activities each day, always attentive and cheerful. Everyone was welcoming and happy to help. Ruuk Village gave us the personal, peaceful experience in Sri Lanka we were hoping for.

I only booked a night at first, but the place convinced me to stay for two. I would’ve stayed longer if my plans had allowed it. The owner was lovely and made sure I and the other guests had what we needed; the staff and volunteers were just as friendly and helpful. Tours and activities can be arranged there, and I went on the dolphin trip, which was great. My hut was basic but comfortable, and I got an upgrade to a larger one with a hammock and a private garden out back, with its own toilet and outdoor shower. Falling asleep to the forest sounds was really nice. The meals were all fantastic, and they offer cooking classes too.

We’d happily return and stay more than just three nights. The cabana let in a lovely breeze, and we really liked having an outdoor bathroom and hammocks scattered around. The food was delicious too. It felt peaceful as soon as we got there. The setup is simple, but it has what you need, and Jeewani and the team quietly handled the details, even helping us arrange a dolphin tour. Thanks for making this village such a special place.

For kitesurfing, the village has mostly Core Kites in good shape and good boards. Some life vests, helmets and harnesses are a little old, but there’s a safety boat on the water to pick you up if you get into trouble. Lessons are available with a good instructor who speaks English well. The water right by the village is too shallow for surfing or swimming, though there are SUPs to use. Dolphin watching is meant to be impressive too. I liked how close the place felt to nature. The houses are traditionally built, and some are quite open to the outdoors. I enjoyed that, and the scents and mosquito nets helped with the bites. The staff were kind and attentive to requests about meals, timing, transfers and when to head to the kitesurfing beach. The local food was made with care and sat well with my German stomach. There’s also plenty of fresh drinking water. It’s a good choice for a quiet, authentic Sri Lankan break. A 10min ride to town costs 500 rupies.
