Valampuri Kite Resort

The whole family enjoyed the kite lessons, and the instructors were both friendly and professional. Akash was a huge help throughout our visit, always doing extra to make sure we were comfortable. Valampiri Resort worked really well for kitesurfing and relaxing. The rooms were comfortable, the pool was great, and breakfast and dinner were fresh and tasty. We had a wonderful stay and would gladly recommend it.

The peaceful garden by the lake and those sunsets were lovely, and the pool was nice too. My deluxe villa was comfortable, very clean, and came with a clean mosquito net, air conditioning and hot water. The grounds were very clean as well. There’s a spot for yoga and working out, and I could ride along on the boat to see the kitesurfing point even though I didn’t take lessons. Restaurant portions were generous and the food tasty. Breakfast was decent. Food prices seemed fairly similar to tourist areas elsewhere in Sri Lanka, though I can’t speak for alcohol. I thought it was good value for money. I spent my last days in Sri Lanka at Valampuri and had a nice time. It’s a relaxed, attractive place, but a bit dated. It’s not by the beach, so check that if a beach stay is what you want. The location is also rather out of the way, which could be difficult for solo travellers without transport who want to explore. Guests are discouraged from eating elsewhere, and with the location, I felt more or less obliged to use their restaurant. Mosquitoes were a real problem. There are no nets on the windows, and if you keep them shut to stop mosquitoes getting into the room, you lose the natural light. The bicycles were in poor condition and unusable. There was no espresso during my stay because the machine was broken, and nowhere nearby to get proper coffee. That was a killer for me. There’s plenty that could be improved, but Akash was doing his best to accommodate each guest’s needs, which made the shortcomings easier to put up with. I still had a great time relaxing there, and the value was good.

It felt like staying with a big family, and the service was excellent. The room was clean, the bed comfortable, and the food was good. Kitesurfers can rent brand-new Duotone kites, and there’s a great instructor. I’d suggest the trip to the distant kite spot with a downwind ride back. It doesn’t cost much, and it’s the best place for kiting.

Akash and the team were lovely, smiling and always ready to help during our three great days at valampuri. The family room was spacious and clean, with a terrace and a really nice view. We felt comfortable there at any time of day, and our children, along with us, loved the pool. Akash arranged a Wilpattu safari for us too. It was well organised, with a boat and jeep, and at a good price. You can come here with your eyes closed 😁
