Canal Garden

The chicken looked good when it arrived, but it was raw in the middle when we cut into it. I've cooked professionally for nearly 40 years, so I know what I saw. When I complained, they apologized to my partner, saying “sorry sir,” but didn't address me at all. There was almost no atmosphere. Music played from a mobile phone and kept cutting out for notifications or ringing. We were told they had no beer after ordering two, and the prawn cocktail starter contained only about three chopped-up prawns. We had to ask for napkins and salt and pepper. We got napkins, but no seasoning. We also tried to order the mixed grill, only to be told it wasn't available. Pretty much everything we asked for was unavailable, so we ended up with the chicken. If you care about your health, avoid this place.

Our host and the staff were so welcoming and looked after us well. We had a lovely meal of crab and king-size prawns at Canal Garden Restaurant. It's only about 30 metres from Club Dolphin Hotel, and I'd highly recommend stopping by.

We enjoyed the food so much that we came back three times last month, for both lunch and dinner. There are Chinese, Western, and local dishes to choose from, and the prices are reasonable. The food was delicious, and the restaurant sits right in front of Hamilton Lake. It's known as one of the best family restaurants in Walkkal and would make a nice getaway spot.

The owner spoke surprisingly good German, and we had a great conversation about Sri Lanka from his point of view. We also enjoyed a lovely evening at Canal Gardens, with six traditional Sri Lankan vegetarian curry dishes, including tasty garden aubergine. The food was much better than what we had at the nearby hotel complexes. We really recommend it.
