Surrey Bird Sanctuary & Holiday Resort

People had told me this was a superb place, and I think it might be on sunny days. We stayed during rainy weather, though. The parking area was really muddy, the sitting mats were wet and unclean, and muddy-looking water came from the taps when we turned them on to wash our hands.

The restaurant is available, but you need to let them know in advance what you'd like during your stay. A 10% service charge is added to the final bill. It's a quiet hotel in an old bungalow, with attached bathrooms and hot water in the rooms. There's a TV too, though you have to pay yourself to activate a package.

The only pleasant surprise was the wooded area behind the estate, where I spotted a small deer, and the nearby river with little waterfalls. The rest was deeply disappointing. The map location was wrong, and after a long hike at night we spent over 30 minutes trying to find our pre-booked room in an unfamiliar area. The manager said he couldn't come out to meet us. There were three of us, but he said there was no triple room. The rooms were very old, and he charged us more than $40 as a service charge, even though Booking.com said all charges were included in the $40. He wouldn't negotiate, so we paid and left. Rooms, service, price, and comfort were all zero.
