AVANI Maseru Hotel

I was in Maseru for an event, and both the service and the treatment we got were the absolute pits. The online booking showed the room price and how many people it could accommodate. Nobody asked at check-in whether I was alone or with a partner. After we’d checked in, security stopped us at the elevator and asked how many people were in the room. If there were two, they wanted another 500, or else only one of us could go upstairs. My room also wasn’t cleaned during the three days I was there, even though I left at 10 a.m. each morning and came back very late. I ordered room service and was charged for some items that never arrived. This hotel and its staff get zero stars from me.

The grounds are inviting, and the pool area is a real asset. Depending on where your room is, you might get a great view of either the pool or the valley on the other side. The rooms are basic but have what you need. I really enjoyed my stay. The place is well located, the service was friendly and helpful, and both dinner and breakfast were good.

Room service turned out to be the pleasant surprise. I ordered the beer-battered fish without expecting much in landlocked Lesotho, but it was moist, flaky and delicious, with crisp, tasty batter. The steamed vegetables with it were just as good. The room was comfortable and spacious. The bed was a little springy and the linen felt somewhat rough, but I still slept well. My main gripe is that the rooms aren’t soundproof, and other guests can be very loud. It’s a decent three-star stay if you’re in Maseru for business or pleasure, without much effort to impress.
