Mpilo Boutique Hotel

My husband and I had a wonderful stay. The staff, including the security guards, were professional and had a positive attitude. We loved how warmly we were welcomed and how clean the whole hotel was. The espresso machine was the cherry on top 💫👌🥰

That dining room is gorgeous, and the view is hard to beat. The meal and service were a different story. Our coffees were a mess, and the spaghetti bolognese was just dry pasta with a tiny bit of plain fried mince on top. No tomato and basil sauce, herbs, fresh garlic or olive oil. I learned to make this easy dish as a kid, so it was baffling to see it go so wrong. Even a quick look at YouTube could have helped. I doubt a trained chef made our food, maybe the waitress or a dishwasher did. The staff need proper training, or the restaurant needs to hire people who can do the job. We paid through the nose for a really disappointing lunch. It’s such a waste of a beautiful space. Put that effort into the food and service too, and this place could be a winner. It always amazes me how careless people can be with their work in Lesotho while also complaining about unemployment.

The food doesn’t seem worth the price. If they paid proper attention to breakfast, they might win over all the unhappy Avani customers.

The view from the top floor is lovely, and the staff were friendly. Still, the service was poor and the prices felt steep for what we got. Even a slice of carrot cake costs about R169.00. The mocktail was good, at least. We went as two people on a Sunday afternoon. My companion asked for tomato pasta with penne but got spaghetti instead, with no penne available. I ordered sparkling water, which they didn’t have, so I switched to tap water. When I asked for a second glass with the meal, I was told it would cost R20 bucks and felt pushed to order another drink, which I didn’t want. I was just trying to stay hydrated. I’d chosen lamb shank with mash, but there was no mash, so I asked for rice. Then oxtail with mash arrived instead. I was told the food I’d asked for would take another 30+ minutes, and I was too hungry to wait, so I had no choice but to eat what they brought. The place looks good, but the service and value let it down. You can try it yourself.
