We didn't stay for breakfast. The night before, we'd seen half-cooked sausages sitting out, and other reviews didn't make us expect a hearty meal anyway. The whole stay felt like nobody cared, and I'd pay not to come back. Seriously, don't stay here, even if you're desperate. The room was barely bigger than the bed, smelled of cigarettes, and came with old sheets and towels that were falling apart. The bathroom was dirty, and dirty laundry was spread all over the floor. The kitchen was filthy too, with food mess everywhere, broken appliances and children's toys on the floor. There was no reception staff around at any point. To pay and check in, we were texted to tap a card reader and take a key, so anyone could reach any of the keys. Upstairs, a family seemed to have some kind of arrangement with the owners. They had doors propped open to several rooms and children running through the corridors, and the whole thing felt hostile from the start. The adults shouted back and forth from room to room late into the night. At 21:56, we messaged the owners asking for help or a room change. They just replied,

The interiors weren't pleasant, and getting to breakfast meant passing a storage area full of renovation debris. The breakfast room was a windowless dungeon, furnished with whatever seemed to have been available for free. The food was traumatic: cereal, sponge-like bread, one kind of low-quality sausage, jam, and coffee of unknown quality. I don't drink coffee, so I can't say how it tasted. The laundry machine ruined a whole load of my clothes, which cost me a lot of money. It smelled awful, and everything came out several shades darker. I paid 5€ to use the machine and still had to buy detergent at a supermarket. I guess the machine is used for cleaning dirty rags. When I complained, the owner said I probably had cigarette butts in my pockets [sic], though I don't even smoke. This place is an insult to the hospitality industry and a shame for the town.

The location and comfortable beds are about the only good things here. They weren't enough to make up for a ruined vacation, and I sincerely do not recommend this hotel. The room had mold, dirt and cobwebs, and the walls were so thin you could hear your neighbor breathe. The room setup shown in the listing wasn't what we got. Even to get a basic hairdryer, I had to go to reception, where there was never anyone. I waited at least 30 minutes. The morning walk from the room to the street could ruin your mood too. Staff stopped me in the hallway, rudely asked who I was and demanded to see my room key. Check-in was just as bad. We'd confirmed our arrival time in advance, but were met with rudeness and told they didn't care what they'd confirmed. After about 20 minutes of arguing, they put us in a room and charged an extra fee that hadn't been mentioned beforehand.

It’s a nice spot if you’re short on time and want to see the old town. The Saturday farmer's market is very close, and I’d recommend checking it out for local products. The rooms are fine for a relaxed holiday, and the breakfast is basic but tasty. The staff’s English is a little broken, but try Google Translate and they’re actually very helpful.

For 35 euros a night, this was great value: the hotel was comfortable and convenient, and the rooms were clean and spacious. Check-in was quick and polite. You can walk to several good restaurants and Kaunas castle. I can't recommend a better combination of space, value and location in Kaunas.
