Hotel Metropolis

The room, location, and stay turned out to be fantastic despite a couple of hiccups. Kristina at the desk was so kind and helpful. Right in the heart of the city, the room paired lovely aged wood and a vintage feel with modern touches in the bathroom and other details.

The main issue was the weekend noise: there’s a music bar on the ground floor, and it went on until 4 am. The other days were calm and quiet, so just bear that in mind when choosing this hotel. It’s a historic hotel in central Kaunas with a beautiful lobby. The rooms were clean, though the furniture was a bit old. Breakfast was inadequate, with very little choice and basically no sweet options.

We didn’t sleep at all during our two nights here. The nightclub next door was so loud all night that the whole room vibrated, and the broken-seeming AC left the room boiling. Opening the windows wasn’t an option because the noise was deafening. Before arrival, we asked reception about the club and were promised a quiet room, with the receptionist saying no part of the hotel could hear it. That turned out to be a complete lie. I only noticed the other reviews just before we got there, after failing to check earlier. Don’t stay here if you need to sleep.

The location is the only plus. The place was dirty, with mould in the bathroom and a strange smell, and the service was poor. Breakfast for €8 felt overpriced: the buffet was partly cold, with very little food or coffee to choose from. The coffee plate was covered in grounds and nobody cleaned it. After serving juice to guests, the waiter even drank from the same container without using a glass. Sound insulation is poor too; you can hear footsteps and vacuuming in the hallway at 8:30 in the morning. There’s no air conditioning in the room. I understand it’s an over-100-year-old hotel with an interwar theme, but the cleanliness and everything else should match the price.
