We came to Schwarzort apartment for the first time, hoping to find a new spot for a family holiday in Juodkrantė. The photos of the fireplace and terrace drew us in. The owner was communicative and took our requests into account. The best thing is the view of the Marias. The bedding was neat, the towels were large and clean, and it was fairly quiet on the weekend in the off-season. Check-in is contactless, with a code lock to enter the building. The apartment is spacious, with a roomy kitchen, useful cookware and dishes, though we missed having bowls for soup or snacks. It felt cool despite the thermostat showing around +20°C. The walls are thin, so there isn’t much sound insulation. The large fridge squeaked very loudly from time to time. The bedroom bed creaked, but was comfortable enough. The shower is spacious, but water still got onto the floor even with the door shut tightly. We found the living room floor very worn. It had been cleaned, but we didn’t want our child playing on it, so we vacuumed and cleaned it ourselves. The owner brought a playpen for our child at our request, but it smelled musty, so we cleaned and aired it out before the child slept in it. The fireplace hadn’t been cleaned and the glass was smoky, hiding the flames. We scrubbed the glass ourselves. The owner said we could pick up firewood for an extra charge, but it was wet and took a lot of effort to get the fire going. There were no tools by the fireplace for cleaning or tending the wood. After the weekend, construction workers arrived and drilled and hammered from morning until evening. Our three-year-old daughter’s afternoon nap was restless because of the noise. The owner hadn’t warned us, and gave no explanation or apology during our stay. It was also unpleasant to have strangers repeatedly wandering around on our terrace behind the panoramic windows. There were three of us, two adults and our three-year-old. I definitely wouldn’t recommend this for a holiday with children. For a couple, it may be a decent option. We’d rate it 5/10 and won’t return.
