Le Pavillon

We came to Le Pavillon in Echternach hoping to have mussels, or “Moules,” and left without eating. On the terrace, a waiter who apparently owns the hotel restaurant took one of the two menus we’d been given and handed it to another table. He told us to share the remaining one, even though there were two of us. When I politely asked for it back, he shouted at and insulted me in front of other guests. We couldn’t accept that treatment and walked out. I’d also eaten there before, and the food was really not good, overpriced, and paired with very poor customer service. Never again.

The staff were friendly and very attentive, and the price is fair for what you get. Parking is nearby, about 300-400m away. The hotel sits right in the heart of Echternach, with everything close at hand. Breakfast could use a little more, perhaps bacon or fried eggs. Compared with other hotels we’ve visited, there’s less choice, such as breakfast variety, so I’m giving it three stars. Still, it has what you need.

The room hadn’t been cleaned after the previous guests. The place is very old and run-down, with really poor hygiene.

We brought Rufus along for lunch at La Pavillon, and they happily found us a corner table where he could lie down and rest. The food was tasty and filling: we kept it simple with a salad topped with big, warm pieces of goat cheese on grilled bread, and a Luxembourg dish, Bouchée à la reine. We had a great lunch and will definitely come back next time we’re in town.
