Hôtel-Restaurant DAHM

The Dahm family runs Hotel Dahm, where the rooms are charming, neat, and consistently clean. There’s an elegant restaurant and a bar, with a lunch menu offered on weekdays. It seems like a comfortable choice for a family break or a business trip.

The rooms are unusually laid out, and quite spacious. Some can fit a small family with a master bed, bunk beds, and a twin. The bathrooms I saw had enough space for two people to get ready at once, which was handy for couples heading out. There’s not much to walk to besides the attached restaurant, but a ten-minute drive gets you to several places to eat and shop. The hotel itself is quaint and not very traditional. Staff spoke French, probably German too, and some English. Coming from the States, I managed check-in and check-out and found my room without any trouble.

The room was clean and very quiet at night, and mid-August was so calm because hardly anyone was staying there. Breakfast had plenty to choose from, including croissants, yoghurt, fresh fruit, bread, eggs, and salmon. The beds and pillows were comfortable, and the bathroom was great with a huge bath, but the rooms themselves felt quite old. There’s no air conditioning, which was a major downside for me. It was okay overnight, but the room got really hot by morning. I’m glad we weren’t there during a heatwave, since sleeping would have been impossible. We ate at the brasserie, where the food was good, though not great. The €14 lunch menu each noon was a real plus, and the waiters were very kind. The receptionist, Natalie, was different: she wasn’t very friendly and came across as a bit rude, sometimes even arrogant. She did speak English and French, though. The bikes were great and made it much easier to see more of the region. Our deal included the three-course gastronomic menu, and that was very disappointing. We wanted to eat inside, but they quite literally chased us outside, where we had to protect our food from wasps, despite plenty of room indoors. They served Carpaccio, then fish for the main course, which we don’t eat, with no meat alternative or anything, followed by sorbet. Hotel Dahm is in Erpeldange, a small village in Luxembourg. For all these reasons, I’m giving it three stars.

A burger at the bar was excellent, and breakfast had plenty of variety. This is a nice little hotel that covers the basics for a comfortable stay. A good option if you want somewhere smaller and quieter.
