It’s an old place, but it’s clean and has a homey feel, like staying in a Luxembourg house. The host is friendly, and while breakfast is basic, we left with happy, full stomachs. The bus stop is just a few steps away.

Anna made us feel welcome right away and was helpful with local bus information and tips on where to go in the centre. She even handled our silly questions about Luxembourg’s language and customs really well. The small car park at the back was much appreciated for our bikes during our two nights here on a European motorbike tour. The hotel was easy to find. The décor and fittings are a bit tired, as others have said, but everything was clean and comfortable, and the prices reflect that. We’d requested extra pillows when booking, remembering those European pancakes, and they were already in our room. We had a spacious room at the front on the second floor, with plenty of room for our bike gear and bags. Traffic noise was audible, but shutting the windows helped. With them open, my earplugs, which I always bring on trips abroad, did the job. The continental breakfast was enough to get us going for sightseeing, and the bread and cakes were different on the second morning, which was a nice touch. We also enjoyed sitting on the roof terrace in the evening to plan the next day. It’s about a 30-40 minute walk into the centre. Anna told us about the buses, but after a long day riding, we liked stretching our legs and checking out the bars and restaurants on the way. We ate at the Italian next door on the first day and really enjoyed it. The Thai restaurant down the road the next night was OK. There was also a nice nearby bar with outdoor seating, which we appreciated in the unusually warm weather. We saw plenty of places to eat along the walk into town, and many looked busy. This is a good value, well placed, welcoming hotel. If you’re after a soulless, state-of-the-art modern place, it won’t suit you. You’d be better off staying in town and paying accordingly.

For guests who like staying with local people and don’t need much, Chez Anna et Jean is a good fit. It’s handy to have a supermarket, bus stop, and places to eat nearby. The hotel is in a restaurant-lined suburban street in Luxemburg, and is a small family place with ten rooms over three floors and no elevator. It’s easy to reach by car or public transport, and has free parking. Breakfast is simple but more than enough. The interior feels dated but charming, and the basic rooms are clean. Anna is hospitable, talkative, and very caring. If you prefer an all-in hotel with professionally serviceable but distant staff, or want air-conditioning, a coffee-maker, and a hair dryer in your room, you’d probably be happier elsewhere.

The city connection is good and the price is reasonable, so Chez Anna et Jean is a very recommendable place to stay in Luxemburg. It’s a small family-run hotel in the suburbs, about 7 minutes from Luxemburg Gare by bus or roughly half an hour on foot. The place has a nostalgic, grandma’s-house feel, though everything worked well. My room was on the 3rd floor, right under the roof. There’s no lift, so bringing up large luggage is a bit inconvenient. Breakfast is brought to your table: rolls, croissant, honey, marmalade, cheese and cold meat in single portions, plus coffee or tea and juice. Anna is very nice and speaks German, English, French, and maybe more.

Our room faced the big street and was fairly noisy, except late at night. The hotel is somewhat worn, but clean, and the hosts are nice. The electrical sockets were broken, so I had to be extra careful plugging things in and unplugging them. The price was good for Luxembourg, though, so it may still be worth it.
