Lago Welcome Place d'Armes

The location of Hôtel Le Place d'Armes was unbeatable for our 5-night trip through Luxembourg. The building is fascinating, a cosy maze of connected rooms and corridors that keeps the character of a historic “grand house.” It feels intimate, not corporate. The place has plenty of charm, though its age shows in the bathrooms, which need maintenance and updating. Even so, the room itself was genuinely comfortable. A bathroom window shattered during housekeeping while we were out. The staff responded professionally and quickly, apologized, and moved us straight to another room. They turned what could have been a disaster into an example of good hospitality. We enjoyed dining here too. The breakfast buffet was limited in variety, but the food was fresh and good quality. The bar was a highlight, with a sophisticated feel and highly skilled bartenders. One winter tip: if the Christmas Market is running in the square, vehicles can’t reach the front entrance. I’d recommend calling the hotel before you arrive so they can arrange help with your luggage or direct your taxi to the nearest accessible spot. It was a deeply satisfying stay.

We were treated to exceptional service and attention, from the front desk to the dining room staff. Demetrios, our cafe server, especially went above and beyond to help us. If you’re driving, you can’t reach the front of Hotel Place d'Armes unless the bollards are lowered for you. Once we figured that out, it was easy. We’d highly recommend the hotel to anyone visiting Luxembourg.

The room was spacious, beautifully decorated, and warm and comfortable. The hotel’s elegant feel and excellent city-centre location made it easy to explore everything on foot. The staff were generally friendly and welcoming. I was disappointed by breakfast. For a large, luxurious hotel, I expected more variety and better quality. There was also a mix-up with my dinner reservation: my package included both the room and dinner, but a miscommunication between reception and the restaurant meant I was charged twice for the same meal. The team handled it politely and is processing a refund, but it was an unpleasant and avoidable problem. I did enjoy the stay and would consider coming back. I hope communication between the hotel and restaurant is smoother next time.

Our room was nice and the hotel is centrally located, but the front desk made the stay frustrating. I’m not looking for endless friendliness, I need a competent team. The hotel is in a pedestrian zone, with no way to drive in by ourselves, and they were supposed to email directions. We drove around confused, then gave up and left the car in a nearby garage before walking over with our luggage. After check-in, they said someone would escort us to our room because the layout was complicated. The receptionists got busy and left us waiting alone. For quite a while, the front desk was completely unmanned, so we had to ask a restaurant waitress for help. The front desk staff, across shifts, seemed overwhelmed by basic guest questions. They can manage the smiling, but lack efficiency when even a small problem comes up. I blame management. Maybe this sounds like a minor annoyance, but expecting smooth service is reasonable.
