Sanmari

The desk staff were exceptionally helpful, and breakfast was free, with local dishes. The hotel was easy to find and walk to, even late at night in the snow. It's right at the start of a pedestrian walkway, just next to the train station, with great restaurants a short walk away. The hotel has a restaurant too. Across the street, the walkway starts, paved with red bricks and light-up bricks. The restaurants were still open when our late train from Riga arrived.

We went with family and kids for my birthday, and the service was a disaster. The adult meals were oversalted. The potatoes were so salty I could crunch the salt granules, even though every table had salt and pepper for guests to add if they wanted. The kids' chicken nuggets came sitting on top of sour cream sauce. The vegetable noodles we ordered as a garnish turned out to be cucumber cut into quarters. That was all the garnish. Dishes also arrived at different times, so we sat waiting to eat until everyone had their order. When I asked for the administrator, the waitress said she had already gone home because her shift ended at 4pm. We were there at 5pm. The restaurant offered no solution, apology, or discount. The prices are too high for this service, and the standards are too low. I really don't recommend it.

Breakfast was fresh and delicious, with a good range of food. Nothing fancy, but there was enough to fill you up. The room was tidy, clean, and fresh, with everything I needed. I especially appreciated having a kettle with tea and coffee. It's a cosy hotel with a swimming pool and restaurant. The staff were the friendliest and most helpful I've ever met. The location is great, right by the train station and not far from the city centre, with supermarkets and other shops about a five minute walk away. If I go back to Daugavpils, hotel Sanmari will definitely be my first choice.

The service was fine, nice and friendly, and the location was okay. The pool was empty in the morning, so it felt like a private session. The sauna never got up to temperature, though maybe that was because it was morning. The rooms were, well, okay if all you're looking for is somewhere to sleep.
