We stayed three nights in room 2, which was quite tidy. With such fantastic weather, we only really needed it to sleep. The beach is a five-minute walk, and the main street is only 30 seconds away. The neighbour’s dog was the one real problem. It barked through every night until early morning, which was absolutely annoying.

Jomas Street is Jūrmala’s first pedestrian street, and its festival celebrates that tradition. It’s one of the oldest and most central streets in town, lined with cafés, hotels, restaurants, summer terraces, live music, and sellers of arts and crafts. In Latvian, “Jomas” means parallel lines in the sand dunes.

We left without ordering. The waiters were walking around and didn’t seem busy, but after about ten minutes nobody had brought us a menu or come to serve us.

On a rainy November day, it was lovely to come in from the cold and get such good service. The soup, schnapps, and beer were all good.
