Porto Resort

The location is great, and the lake views account for my two stars. The photos and reviews had me expecting better, but the place was seriously outdated and the bathrooms felt dangerous. The rooms are large, though the layouts don't work unless you're two feet tall: the sloped roof sits only about two feet above you when you're in bed. Very disappointing, and I won't be back.

A quiet, lovely place near Baltezers and White Lakes, close to Riga, with thatched roofs and wooden walls. We went for a morning swim in the lake, and the food was very good. Highly recommend.

A serious problem greeted us in the morning: there was no water, which meant no shower, toilet, or brushing our teeth. Reception showed little concern and said an engineer might show up sometime. Nobody apologized or offered to make the situation easier. When I asked for my money back, they offered me a “drink of coffee” and stared at me blankly. They eventually transferred us to another branch down the road, which was even worse and rude. Its rooms were tiny and damaged, without amenities or side tables; there wasn't even tea or coffee, and wires were left hanging from the wall. A disgusting experience with the hotel and staff. DO NOT BOOK THIS HOTEL!! The worst stay I've had in over 30 years.

We were glad to spend a night here, if only because it made us appreciate home when we got there. We'd travelled from the Netherlands through southern Germany, Austria, Czechia, and Poland, then along Via Baltica, and this was easily our worst night. First we were given an unclean room, but the receptionist sorted that out by moving us. The replacement was clean, but one white pillowcase was piss-yellow and the bed was hard as a rock. Thankfully, we had our own pillows in the car. When we showered, there was no hot water, so we had to wash in the cold. Later, just before bed, the toilet started leaking from the back. We woke up sore all over and badly rested because of the mattress, and we'd been woken several times by other guests since the rooms had no soundproofing. Breakfast was at least alright, with few complaints. Paying over 70 euros for that night was a joke. I'd expect a room like this to cost 40 euros at most, maybe closer to 35. I'm confused by all the positive reviews. Please avoid this place until they fix the rooms.
