The calm and simple feel of the island is there everywhere you walk. About half an hour from the old town, it was magical to wander among the wooden houses with white windows and warm, lively colors, green trees behind them and the river breeze nearby. A must-see if you like that kind of architecture.

If you’ve got some time in Riga, Kipsala Island is worth a look. It’s less visited than the usual sights, with traditional buildings and lots of greenery, and makes a nice change from the standard tourist routes.
