The location is great, right in the center and close to everything, and the service and view are fine. The place feels very old, probably from Soviet Union times. The rooms aren't much to write home about, just enough for simple living or a solo vacation. It's okay, I guess.

After a long bike ride from Tukums, they welcomed us with a cup of tea. That was a lovely touch! The staff were very friendly, and there's a great view over the city. It's also close to the center.

We were asked what time we'd come for breakfast, then waited 20 minutes in the morning for some awful coffee and a little food. After a long day out, I also couldn't get a cup of tea: there was no kettle in the room, the receptionist couldn't provide hot water, and even though the hotel restaurant had a “private event,” she couldn't get us two cups of hot water. There was no hair dryer in the room either, and I had to ask for one several times. On arrival, the receptionist was awfully rude and nationalistic. She asked us something in Latvian; when we asked what in Russian, she kept speaking Latvian. Really? Is that how Talsi greets visitors? If you don't know Russian, reply in English. I'm staying here now for two nights, and arriving gave me the feeling of that song, “back in the USSR.” Bravo, guys. Good luck with your invaluable contribution to regional tourism. I don't recommend staying here.

Talsi is a beautiful town, and there's a very big lake behind the hotel, one of two in Talsi. The hotel itself is very old; I guess it could date from Soviet Union times.

The receptionist was really nice and friendly, and the rooms were at least clean, though very humble. At 50 euros for a room and breakfast, it feels a little too expensive. Still okay if you don't have another option.
