The good parts were the big beds, fresh orange juice, tortoises in the garden, and a couple of decent pool waiters. Two people from the animation team were friendly too. Still, after a week here, I wouldn’t come back. Our room smelled of smoke, mould, and paint, and looked very dated. The other room they showed us was much the same, and since we’d arrived late we didn’t want to pack everything again. The air conditioning didn’t work, and there was no kettle or water, even though guests are told not to drink the water. Other places we’ve stayed at least left a bottle for brushing teeth. We had to call room service for water or morning tea before breakfast. Breakfast was very limited. I knew it was a dry country, but beer cost £7, or sometimes £6 depending on who served it. It felt as if French guests were treated better, and several people told us all-inclusive guests weren’t cared about. The hotel’s private beach across the road was okay for location. The nearby restaurants looked lovely but weren’t that good. The best meal we had was at the camel on our last night, and they had music.

The beach and location are the main things this hotel has going for it. There’s a private beach area, local buses make it easy to get around, and they were clean, played music, and cost much less than local taxis. But I wouldn’t call this a four-star hotel. It badly needs updating, and the restaurant’s food selection disappointed me. You can’t bring outside food in, and everything seems to cost extra. There was no kettle, tea, coffee, or complimentary water in the room. The toilet was narrow and very small, with no bidet spray. We asked to borrow an iron and were told they didn’t have one, though ironing and dry cleaning services were available. Restaurant staff were nice, but reception didn’t feel welcoming or hospitable. We booked bed and breakfast, and breakfast was the same each morning, with only oranges and grapefruit for fruit. The hotel lacked the things I’d expect at this rating.

We left the next morning because I couldn’t keep my children in those conditions. We had to pay to move to another hotel, and the experience was bad enough that we considered giving up the holiday and flying back to England early. When I tried to explain our decision calmly, the manager shouted and became confrontational in front of the children. He repeatedly got in my face after I asked him to calm down. It was intimidating and disgraceful. Earlier, at 1am, he had demanded another £60 for a junior suite, despite our exhausted children and the lack of a realistic alternative at that hour. That room was barely better, still outdated, dirty, and smelly. From the moment we entered the building there was a terrible smell of damp, mould, and decay. The whole place felt neglected, old, and dirty, not clean or safe for guests, especially families. Our room was damp and dirty too, and the bathroom and toilets were filthy and unhygienic. My young daughter was so upset by the toilet that she wouldn’t go near it. Within minutes, my children started itching and showing signs of allergic reactions, which deeply worried us as parents. When we first took this to the manager, we expected basic concern for the children, but got arrogance and indifference instead of an apology or proper solution. This place is poorly maintained, unhygienic, badly managed, and lacks professionalism and basic care for customers. The start of our family holiday was ruined, and it was one of the most disgusting and stressful hotel stays we’ve endured. Families should stay away. Don’t trust the photos, spend your money, or risk your holiday here. Appalling from start to finish.

The grassy area is thick and lovely underfoot. The room was a decent size, with a massive, comfortable bed, and it was cleaned daily with towels changed each day, though some towels were thin. The toilet had a flushing problem, but I reported it and they fixed it quickly. The decor is a bit dated, and the corridors have poor lighting during the day with no natural light, which made getting the key into the door tricky. Could be a problem if you were tipsy. Wi-Fi was a little intermittent, maybe because it’s a large hotel. The entertainment crew were good, and waiters were attentive, perhaps because they hope for tips, as seems to happen anywhere. The huge beach is only a two-minute walk away. A few shops for essentials are nearby; the main shops are about ten minutes away if you turn left outside the hotel. There are more shops to the right, but farther along. Overall, it was okay. x

The staff were great, from the dining room to the pool and animation team. The pool area was fine, and breakfast was a buffet with plenty to choose from. We stayed ten nights on a bed and breakfast plan, so we found the drinks a bit pricey and didn’t eat at the hotel apart from breakfast. I didn’t like that outside food and drink weren’t allowed. Security stopped us at the entrance over a bottle of water, and we had to hide it to get by. The hotel is a little dated and some areas, such as the bedrooms, could use refurbishment. All in all, a good hotel with both pluses and minuses.
