Caravan Agafay by Our Habitas

We spent five nights in a Desert Lodge at Caravan Agafay, and it was a trip we'll never forget. The rustic camp is beautiful, with stunning desert views, especially at sunset. Meals were excellent, with flavorful Moroccan dishes, and the staff were so attentive. Everyone made us feel at home, and the team worked around our schedule for the activities. We tried camel riding, quad biking, a hot air balloon, horse riding, and a massage. Every experience was brilliant and well organized. Amine and team, thank you for taking such good care of us and making this time special. We can't wait to return and would absolutely recommend it.

On the night of Jan 1st to Jan 2nd, strong winds made the tent structure move. One of its pillars collapsed, and the first cover blew away. Our tent was the only one damaged, even though the one just 5 meters away was fine. We no longer felt safe staying there, so at 3 am we took shelter in the restaurant. About 15 minutes later, a security guard and a colleague confirmed we couldn't sleep in the tent. At 3:30 am we moved to another room before our flight. Earlier in the stay, the shower and sink water had been cold. We reported that on Dec 31st and were told it would be fixed, but after returning from Marrakech later that day, we were told it was sorted when it wasn't. We showered in cold water again. On Jan 1st we asked once more for the repair and also booked an airport transfer for Jan 2nd at 7h30. That morning, I happened to find a maintenance worker at our room. He and a colleague fixed the water in five minutes, and he said it was the first time he'd been asked to come. Later, reception couldn't confirm the airport transfer because it hadn't been booked. I was upset and told the same staff member he hadn't checked that the water was fixed. He blamed his colleagues but didn't accept that checking was his responsibility. We arrived late on Dec 30th, and the hot water issue went on for two days. In short, the water didn't work properly and the tent room collapsed during our final night. Caravan by Habitas Agafay was our third Habitas stay. We had enjoyed Namibia and Bacalar, but this was our worst Habitas experience and one of the worst stays we've had in this hotel category.

Our family of five had a nice stay, and the beautiful place was definitely worth experiencing. The food was perfect, and we really enjoyed the complimentary yoga for Habitas guests. Free water in the rooms was a welcome improvement. There are a few things to get used to, like the toilets in the tents, and poolside service could be better. We also didn't get replies to the emails we sent beforehand. All in all, I'd recommend it for an unusual experience.

We asked about a hot air balloon ride when we booked three months in advance. The replies were cryptic at first, but we were eventually told it would be fine. Then, over dinner after we arrived, we learned it was canceled. Everything else we could have done was already fully booked, and nobody had warned us that the balloon might be canceled, so we had nothing to do. The transfer we'd arranged to and from the hotel wouldn't drive all the way to our accommodation in the medina, leaving us to drag our suitcases for ten minutes each way. The driver also drove dangerously fast. Hotel service was okay, but nothing extra; the place felt run-down. I absolutely wouldn't recommend going there.
