The room was clean enough and had a sea view, and the reception staff were friendly. But the bathroom had an overwhelming sewer smell. We were on the 4th floor, so I assume it's like that on every floor. When we were leaving, the owner acted strangely. My wife picked up her bags, which she'd left there before breakfast and which the receptionist had seen her put there. The owner was standing beside that same staff member, but still called out, “Hey! Are those your bags?” She said yes. Then, as we loaded the car, he came out the front door and asked, “Where is the Room Key?” I'd just handed it to the staff member beside him at the counter. The staff member said nothing and just looked at the owner as if to ask what his problem was with us. 🤷🏻♂️

The location is definitely strategic, and most of the team members I met were courteous and professional. I'd stayed at Hotel Zelis before and came again over the Eid weekend. The stay was acceptable overall. As a General Manager at another hotel in Morocco, I chose to book directly instead of using Booking.com, even though I'm a Genius Level 3 member, because I wanted to support the hotel and help it avoid commission fees. I didn't feel that choice was appreciated. I wasn't given a welcoming gesture or a well-located room. Instead, I got a clearly less desirable room while better rooms on the upper floors went to guests who booked through Booking. The hotel missed a chance to recognize loyalty and professionalism. If I managed the property, I'd treat guests fairly no matter how they booked. Consistency and transparency matter for long-term trust and guest satisfaction.

The staff were really friendly and kind, and I had a good stay at the Zelis hotel. My room looked out over the port.

We got the best view in town 😍, and the breakfast was nice. There is parking outside, with someone keeping an eye on the cars and motorbikes. The hotel is nice to stay at in Assilah, though it feels a bit tired and could use a refurbishment.

The pool is small but nice, and the food was great. Just note there's no license for alcohol. The rooms could use a little restoration. It's a five-minute walk from the City Walls and two minutes from Parque Mohammed V.
