The staff's personality is among the top three we've encountered during our current month in Morocco. It's a simple hotel with really good service. Our rooms had balconies overlooking the town square. There wasn't enough heat in the rooms, and the toilet water system didn't work in two of them. The restaurant food was okay, and breakfast cost €3. A double room was €25, and parking in the garage next door was €2 per motorcycle. The check-in order suited us: first we discussed the room price and saw the room, then took our luggage up, parked our motorcycles, and finally paid and handed over our passports so they could fill in the paperwork while we settled in and changed clothes.

The price was reasonable and the quality okay. My lamb was DH60 and wasn't tender, while the beef tagine at DH60 had a better texture and taste. We paid DH10 for mint tea. We didn't know trout was the specialty, and should have ordered that instead. The man in a black suit gave us amazing service. He was very professional and spoke a little English. There's also a DH100 menu. The dining room looks like it's from around 1924, and you can eat out on the terrace too. It was pretty chilly tonight, about 5 degrees, but the setting can still be lovely.

I wouldn't recommend staying here. It was so dirty that we had to clean it ourselves with baby wipes, lol. We used our own pillowcases and bed cover because the ones in the room were literally brown instead of white. The shower and toilet were disgusting. I wish I could sue them.

We would've moved somewhere else if it hadn't been so late. The dinner was swimming in oil and lacked seasoning, so my husband dumped half a salt shaker into it. The shower was tiny and freezing. The bed bounced like a trampoline, the blankets came from our car, and the toilet moved. There's technically heat, but barely any. The hair dryer and heating pad were there, but the TV had only two channels and only one worked. Way too pricey for such a run-down hotel. Don't stay here, ever.

After so many tagines, I wanted something different while visiting Azrou for the Tuesday market and to buy rugs. Amine Idrissi, Fes’s guide “par excellence,” recommended lunch at The Hotel Des Cedres and said trout was the house specialty. An elegant older gentleman in a suit, with a Moroccan-Gallic air, took our order in French, Arabic, and English. The trout arrived beautifully prepared Almandine. Our suave server expertly filleted each one, with real aplomb. A Parisian three-star Michelin restaurant couldn't have done better. The trout was sublime, and the potatoes alongside it were rich and tasty. A great meal in charming Azrou, a Moroccan mountain town.
