We had a pleasant two-night stay at this simple, no-frills place, about a 15-minute drive from town. The property is lovely, especially the pool area, and check-in was easy. The rooms were clean and roomy, though quite basic. We weren't told much about the property or nearby area, and nobody offered to help with our bags on the stairs. Meals need to be arranged ahead, with lunch and dinner served at set times rather than chosen from a menu. Breakfast was good, with scrambled eggs, bread, yogurt, and coffee. It's normally served from 7:30 to 9:30, but the staff kindly accommodated us outside that window. The staff also left fresh towels and housekeeping out during our stay, as neither was provided over the two nights. Wi-Fi didn't reach our room and was weak in the lobby. The shower had low pressure and kept switching between warm and cold, and the shower head had to be held because it pointed at the ceiling when left in its holder.

We found Villa Maya peaceful and well placed for our plans, with the beach for surfing and Essaouira for shopping or dinner both an easy drive away. The setting is quiet and fairly rural. The rooms were spotless, stylish, and had what we needed. The grounds were lovely and well cared for, and the staff were very friendly and attentive. We were welcomed warmly and check-in was quick and smooth. It was a wonderful holiday, and we'd happily return. Thanks for the hospitality! Robert & Sandra

Gerard made our stay at Villa Maya in Essaouira feel like staying with family. We were the only guests, and he took time to sit with my partner and me. His kindness stood out throughout our visit, especially when he made us breakfast at 5:30 in the morning so we'd have something to eat before the three-hour drive to Marrakech for our return flight. He's one of the best people we met on the trip, and we'll remember his warmth and hospitality. The restored villa is beautiful, with a large play area, pool, darts, and garden that made it easy to relax and have fun. Our room was spacious, and the beds were so comfortable we slept really well. With such a welcoming host, comfortable rooms, and great amenities, we can't recommend Villa Maya enough.

The food was delicious, and both the host and staff were really friendly. We spent two nights here and wished we could have stayed longer. The villa and garden, including the pool, were beautifully decorated and clearly well looked after.
