The decoration is the one thing I really liked. It gives the place a beautiful vintage Moroccan house feel, but the noise spoiled the stay. We could hear the hotel restaurant all night, and people played football very late at the small stadium nearby. When things finally quieted down, the mosque next door started the call to prayer early in the morning, going on for about 30 minutes straight. The room wasn’t comfortable either. The bed was uncomfortable, and there was nowhere to put our clothes, so we had to leave everything in our suitcase. If you want peace and a good night’s sleep in Chefchaouen, I’d look elsewhere. There are plenty of better options.

We had a positive stay overall, with clean rooms and helpful staff. On our second night we paid a good price to move into a nice quad room on the third floor. The booking.com listing showed both private and shared bathrooms, so we ended up with a shared one the first night. I’m not sure whether that was our mistake or the ad’s, and the hotel was helpful when we upgraded. The location brought some problems. Parking was fine on a side street, but the hotel is close to the mosque, which made noise very early in the morning. The outdoor restaurant terrace added noise too, and groups waiting for the attached restaurant gathered in the main lobby the first night. That felt unnecessary. Given the noise, I can’t rate it higher and probably wouldn’t stay again.

The owner was so friendly and helpful. It’s a beautiful, welcoming place inside the medina, and it was quiet and clean. Just what I was looking for.

Hotel Molino is a small, quirky place in the middle of the old medina in Chefchaouen. Getting there means walking up stairs and along narrow, winding alleys. The building may be a couple hundred years old, with rustic doors and narrow stairways after its remodel. I booked the rooftop terrace queen room with a private bathroom. It was tiny but fine for a night or two. The mosque next door will wake you at night with the call to prayer. El Cielo, the restaurant in the hotel garden, is popular. It’s a distinctive stay for adventurous travelers.

We got good value here, and the room was clean and comfortable. The location in the old Medina is lovely. It’s at the far end, but the walks were quick, so that didn’t bother us. Staff were friendly and helpful, the restaurant was a nice spot to read or have breakfast, and we also used the laundry service, which was good.
