Dakhla Club Hotel & Spa

The kids picked up kitesurfing quickly with a fantastic team, and they loved spending time by the pool. There were loads of fun activities to do when the wind was down. Great food, lovely staff and location, and a really good kite-surfing school.

The bungalow had a nice modern style and was clean. I think ours had been renovated recently. The hotel itself is well designed, and the pool area is nice. The location works brilliantly for both beginner and advanced kite surfing. The beginner instructors were good, the advanced gear was new and in good condition, and the massages were good quality. Still, for what it costs, I came away disappointed. The payment arrangements were a real drag. You pay for the room on arrival, massages before they begin, and every drink separately instead of charging it to the room. They even ask for a drinks deposit when you arrive. I’ve never experienced that in a hotel, and it doesn’t put you in a holiday mood. The spa isn’t included, including the hammam and spa pool, which I also found unusual. The gym was average, and without WiFi there I couldn’t listen to music. Food was average at best. I’ve had better meals at other Dakhla hotels, including cheaper ones. There was no A/C in the room. The hotel and sunset bar didn’t have much of a kite vibe. The bar felt disconnected from the beach and kite center, so not many people used it, and I think it would work better closer to the kite center. Kite sessions had to finish very early even when the lagoon was still full of kites, and the downwind runs were very short, leaving little time to enjoy Dune Blanche. Service also depended a lot on who you dealt with, some people were super nice and others weren’t.

The beach right in front makes launching a kite very easy, and the pool area is cosy and nicely decorated. If you bring your own gear, the lockers are excellent. The food portions are generous and there’s a good variety. The rest wasn’t a positive experience. WiFi was weak, and the Medina rooms are tiny for the price and have no light. They don’t even have a hair dryer. The restaurant terrace is huge but has very few tables and sofas, which makes no sense, and the beach bar seemed abandoned with no service. Breakfast coffee smelled like ash and was impossible to drink. A coffee ordered from the terrace bar cost 40dh even though the menu said 30dh, with Nespresso capsules given as the reason. A basic beer is 30-40dh elsewhere, but 70dh here, the most expensive in Dahkla.

This is our second stay, and we think it’s the best-quality kite-surf hotel in Dakhla. KBC handles kite and wing rentals and storage, and they’re attentive with launching and getting you back in. They also provide a free rescue if you get blown out of the area. The beach has sunbeds sheltered from the wind. The food is excellent, the staff are brilliant, and the rooms are spacious and very clean. Kitesurfing is good too, with the water not going far from the hotel, unlike at some nearby locations.
