Dar Ettaki

A great spot for both a holiday and a work trip. Maryam was lovely and helpful, ready to assist with whatever you need.

Dar Ettaki is beautifully furnished and decorated, and its location in this remarkable Portuguese city is fantastic, right near the pleasant seaside promenade. We felt at ease from the start, thanks to the lovely welcome. We were delighted with our stay.

The riad itself is very beautiful, but it’s in a catastrophic state and I definitely can’t recommend it. The kitchen was always a disgusting mess, with dirty dishes and rubbish everywhere, while the woman sat playing on her phone. Her family kept visiting and sleeping in the large common room, and dirty laundry was left on the floor and armchairs. The dining table was never clean and stayed covered with personal belongings. Breakfast was incredibly cheap and uninspired: the bread was already broken, and on the last day I had to share the olive oil, jam, and butter with another guest. The instant coffee was awful. The rooftop terrace was neglected, the promised cushions never appeared, and there was no Wi-Fi up there. The only large room, a suite, was occupied by the employee and her son. She said she’d just come back from a trip and that was why her belongings were in the room and it was clean. In reality, there was lint and dirt everywhere.

Amina, our hostess, is one of the loveliest people we met in this country. The place was very clean, and breakfast was delicious, with three kinds of homemade bread. We felt like we were visiting friends. Highly recommended.
