Riad Al Madina

The location is good, the rooms are spacious, the bed is large and the staff are friendly. But there are several problems. They add charges such as city tax, the breakfast is pretty poor, and the streets outside are noisy. The bed wasn’t very comfortable, towels were taken away and sometimes not replaced, and the TV didn’t really work. Worst of all, the shower can be dangerous: when someone flushed a toilet on the same floor, the water scalded me twice.

The riad may have its charms, but our room was awful: cold, damp, smelly and dirty, and the shower room was disgusting. Hot water was the one good thing, and even that was gone by our second morning. I couldn’t wait to get out of that room.

I’m extremely disappointed and unhappy with this Riad. This was my second stay and will be my last. After checking in, leaving my bags and going out, I returned very late to find there wasn’t a single power socket in the room, not even in the toilet, to charge my phone. At 1 am they moved me to another room, which also had no sockets, as though they hoped I had nothing to plug in. That room had no shower door, just one curtain hanging from two hooks. I asked for another room in the morning and was moved for a third time. Later that evening there was no hot water for my shower, and it didn’t return before I checked out the next morning. None of the three rooms had air conditioning or even an electric fan. There was no shampoo, only a small, cheap, odourless soap. The internet didn’t work either. I want my money back!

A lovely rhiad in central Essoueira. We had an amazing, quick stay, with great spa and services.
