Essaouira Beach Hostel

Really good value for money. I liked the blackout curtains around the beds, and the terrace was great. It’s outside the Medina but still walkable, with a fun atmosphere. Bathrooms were ok. If you want to sleep in, avoid a ground floor room because breakfast gets noisy there.

The Ahdan call to prayer is played throughout Essaouira every time. I also found it very bad that they let guests drink alcohol, since that is forbidden and frowned upon in Islamic traditions.

The rooftop has a beautiful beach view, and the hostel is close to the beach, about 20 minutes from the old Medina. Breakfast had the essentials: vegetables, fruit, bread, boiled eggs, and hot drinks. The shower had warm water, and the place felt very safe. I paid 300 MAD for two nights, which was totally worth it. The room was super clean, the bed comfortable, and the receptionists and other guests were very friendly. We also had a free couscous dinner on Friday and a Gnaoua show, which was great. It was my first time staying in a Moroccan hostel, and if I come back to Essaouira, I’ll definitely stay here again. I really recommend it.

The location is perfect, the terrace is amazing, and the bed was clean. For 10 euros a night with breakfast, you get what you pay for, and it’s hard to ask for much more. The employees were very nice, though a fly trap may be due. The bathroom and shower hardware and plumbing are in poor shape, something cleaning can’t fix. Ten people in one room is too many for comfort. With people constantly coming and going, I didn’t feel safe relying on a basic screw to secure valuables. The doors are loud and squeaky. For gear and lessons, perhaps check elsewhere.
