Surf House Maroc

I found the place through Instagram and got really excited by their profile. But when I messaged the person on WhatsApp to ask about the rooms and activities, he didn’t reply or give me the basic information you’d normally want before booking. They might have an amazing place, but if the relationship with the client is awful, it makes no sense.

We planned on two days, then stayed six nights and changed all our plans! The surf was perfect for almost the entire time. Amine & Co. welcomed us so warmly into their handcrafted homestay. The community we met at the restaurant was lovely, and the other guests were super fun. 12 out of 5 stars, hahah.

This house has been home to me over the past few years. I’ve spent so many days here, with slow mornings drinking coffee in the sun, long barefoot beach walks, rooftop sunsets, and the best meals shared with friends and strangers who quickly became family. There’s something hard to describe about the place, soft, simple, warm, and real. Amine and his brother Adil, Yassine, Auntie Fatima, and the whole family have made more than a surfhouse. It’s full of life, laughter, connection, and love, somewhere that holds you and lets you breathe a little deeper. I’m grateful for everything I experienced here and all the moments I won’t forget. These are the kinds of memories that stay with you forever.

I’ve never given a one-star review before, but I feel obliged this time. I booked the ‘bungalow la grotte’ through Airbnb, which was promised as an independent unit with a kitchen and strong Wi-Fi. On arrival, it had neither, though the host agreed to bring kitchen stuff the next day. Then I found the door lock couldn’t be used, so I had to leave my valuables unlocked, and the shower drain was broken. The room flooded after about a minute of showering. The hosts suggested cancelling the rest of the booking and finding somewhere else, assuring me I’d only pay for my one night. That’s turned out to be untrue: I’ve been charged over €100 even though the studio clearly wasn’t ready for guests. My calls and messages to the hosts since I left have gone unanswered. I do think the Surf House could be a great place to stay, but when things go wrong, people show their true colors. Here I saw a lack of honesty and responsibility, as apparently happened before according to earlier reviews. Be warned if you decide to stay.
