Riad Marosko

The price felt far too high for what we got. We’d clearly asked for a lower-floor room because my wife is pregnant and we wanted to avoid lots of stairs, but although they saw the request, they ignored it. The shower was dirty and the room hadn’t been cleaned properly. Our room was right above the dining area. Staff made a lot of noise setting up breakfast from 7:00 every morning, and guests arrived early, even though we’d been told breakfast started at 8:30. It was hard to rest. The room also didn’t look like the pictures. Getting to the toilet meant going through a low, narrow passage, and the toilet had no door. The shower door opened straight onto the hallway and dining area, so there was very little privacy and it felt uncomfortable. At night, the dark, unpleasant alley you have to walk through to reach the riad felt unsafe. Definitely not worth the money.

The place was quiet and easy to reach, close to the beach and in the city centre. Our beds were good, the rooms clean and nicely decorated, and the staff attentive and very friendly. We stayed at the second Riad Marosko, farther down the lane. The roof terrace was lovely, and breakfast there was the best we had in Marocko, both a beautiful meal and a lovely experience. Great stay!

The location is convenient, right in the centre of the Medina with lots of shops, cafes, and restaurants nearby, and the sea is easy to get to. The stairs are especially steep, so this really isn’t suitable if you have weak knees. The rooms are sparsely furnished, with just small rugs over freezing floors. There’s no heater or air conditioner, and no kettle in the room. We were checking out at 8am and were told breakfast wouldn’t be served until 8.30am, but they said they would pack it for us to take along.

The reception could use some improvement, but the breakfast service was outstanding. We had a great recent stay at Marosko riad in Essaouira, with tidy, clean rooms and a highly convenient spot in the centre of the medina. I’d highly recommend it.
