Riad Le Grand Large

The staff were friendly, from reception and housekeeping to the woman who made breakfast, which was decent and included. The riad is central in the medina and felt safe. Our three rooms had clean beds and sheets, but all needed maintenance and updating. The paintwork was poor, and the back bathrooms especially were in bad shape, with rusty pipes, crumbling sinks, broken tiles and shower hoses, and shower curtains that need replacing. They didn't look hygienic or inviting. With the price we paid plus the local tax of €3 per person per day, I expected the facilities to be in much better condition. The French owner has a nice riad in a great location, but it needs bathroom work and fresh paint. Hygiene and these details make a big difference for guests returning. The service and facilities could be excellent with that attention. Also, avoid a room facing the main street if you want to sleep well, since noise carries late into the night.

We had a really good night's sleep, and breakfast was great. The place is right in the market in Essuara, clean and tidy, and they let us leave our luggage until we returned from Marrakech. The only small issue was the shower fitting: the water was lovely and warm, but the head seemed like it might fall off the wall. Otherwise, perfect, and highly recommended.

The location is central, but the place is hard to find because there's no clear sign. The bed was comfortable and there was plenty of hot water, though there was nowhere for soap or shampoo except the floor, and no hooks. There was no fan in the room, and noise came in from both the street and the hotel. The roof terrace and breakfast area felt shabby and uncared for. Breakfast was just bread and jam, a one-egg omelette, orange juice and coffee, with no refills. Adequate, nothing more. WiFi was very patchy.

The people running the hotel were very nice, and I loved my two-night stay. Breakfast is included and served on a beautiful roof terrace. I arrived on a Monday night and they had just one room left, so booking ahead might be a good idea.
