Dar El Mizan

I felt right at home thanks to the caring, welcoming family who own this beautiful house in the heart of the Medina of Fez. It's no more than 10 minutes from the blue gate, and the room and shared areas were all really cozy. The rooftop was an incredible place to unwind in the evening and take in the city view. I'd definitely return.

The host, Said, was really friendly and helpful, and the dinner suggestions were great. It was good value, and I'd stay again. The room was comfortable and had aircon, though a couple of things could use attention, like replacing light bulbs and providing toilet paper.

There was a lot of street noise, mostly loud voices, late into the night, the shower kept flooding as other reviewers had mentioned, and there was rarely toilet paper. I was surprised given the good reviews on Airbnb and Google. Maybe I was just unlucky, but I'd be very cautious about bed bugs if you're thinking of staying here. Soon after arriving at Dar El Mizan, I got bites all over my neck and arms. I hadn't had any before, and quickly found at least five bed bugs on the bed and floor, so I'm certain I didn't bring them. It was a nightmare that spoiled the rest of my time in Morroco. Bed bugs can be difficult to get rid of, I worried about carrying them with me, and I was itchy for days. The host agreed to move me to another room, but despite taking every precaution to avoid carrying them over, I found bed bugs there too. Omar was friendly at first and agreed to refund the two nights I'd paid for. Then it seemed clear he didn't want me to leave an honest Airbnb review, and he denied what happened and made false accusations. I attached some photos to show what I found. What frustrated me most was that the hosts didn't seem to grasp how serious bed bugs in their accommodation are, or that much was being done after I told them.

The atmosphere at Riad El mizan was excellent, and the shared facilities were well kept. It's on a quiet parallel street beside one of the Medina's busiest streets, in a great location. The rooms were comfortable, though not especially spacious, and the staff were very friendly and happy to chat. A splendid stay.
